Recently I was in a very heated debate over the THRILLER series which is now available on DVD. This discussion was not with anyone on here, but rather another film collector friend of mine who insists that the series Thriller with host Boris Karloff is all Public Domain. I say it's not and cannot find any info that say's it is or isn't and neither can he. Even the Copyright Office (on-line) does not list this series so we agreed to disagree. Who's Right?
And where is the proof of the status of this series. Anyone who might be able to furnish info that can settle this would be much appreciated. I figured if anyone knows, this would be the number one place to get an answer. Thanks.

Outside of obvious bootlegs being offered to collectors, I don't see that "Thriller" is available on DVD at all.

Which may be an excellent indicator of its copyright status. I think that if the series was in fact PD, you would have seen it offered for sale by one (or all) of the PD video companies by now ala "One Step Beyond."

It looks as though there are many places where you can purchase the thriller series. Plus it looks as though some of the shows can be had on ebay too.

What a great series to have with Boris so if anyone does get one post the review here so others can know how it was and where to get it.

Hi Steven

WOW! Shows how long it's been since I've been here. I have no clue what you'd want to discuss about Paramount Newsreels as I do believe that all of them with the exception of perhaps less then a handful are under copyright.

When you say newsreels are you talking about early movies or news movie reals. My dad worked for paramount and I have some full reels and audio tapes from about the 1950's

The Birdman is watching you.

I would love to locate a newsreel from 1948 about a man named J. Frank Dalton who claimed to be Jesse James. I know that it was released on Paramount News.
